Designs in detail
- New Titanium connection
A significant proportion of the total foil drag is generated by the wetted area of the front vertical, and from the frontal area and volume of the bulb. The bulb size is primarily determined by the size of the tenon used to join the strut and foil. By moving from the legacy Exocet type carbon fibre tenon to a new titanium tenon, has allowed us to significantly reduce both the mean wetted chord of the strut and the size of the bulb. Please note that these new foils are not backwards compatible with existing Exocet/Aerocet verticals.
- New Vertical
The new vertical has a smaller chord than the previous skinny vertical, and features an updated low drag/low ventilation vertical section. The skinny vertical has just got even skinnier!
For the Aerocet, we have made a modest increase in strut length from 1m to 1.05m. This provides greater clearance between the sailor and water surface. This makes it is easier to ‘groove’ the boat and maintain the optimum windward heel angle whilst sailing upwind in a seaway.
- New foil construction process
We have developed a new construction process for the main foils.
These are fully constructed from HM pre-preg. All pre-preg is being CNC cut inhouse on our newly acquired ply cutting machine. This significant investment has been sought to improve quality and consistency of the new generation foil. This allows the foils to be produced to even finer tolerances. On the water, the stiffness and foil design provide a locked and easy to ‘dial in’ feel which translates to more speed, especially upwind.
